Introduction to the Department of Narcotics Control:
The use of drugs is very ancient in the socio-cultural, cultural and historical context of Bangladesh. The British East India Company started the first opium farming and opium business in India for their commercial interests and issued a decree and appointed some officers for it. The British produced opium in India, made huge money by exporting to other countries of the world including China and opened opium shops in this country. The first opium law enforcer was established by bringing opium business under government control, and opium deportation was established by amending the opium law. Subsequently, revenue from maize and liquor started to be collected, and in that year the Bengal Excise Act and the Bengal Excise Department were established. The government adopted The Dangerous Drugs Act-1930 in the wake of the spread of opiate and cocaine drugs. Similarly, the government promulgated the Opiun Smoking Act-1932 in the 52nd Regulation and the Dangerous Rules-1939 for controlling office consumption. The Prohibition Rules 1950 was created to control alcohol consumption for Muslims after the establishment of Pakistan in that year. The Opium sales Rules 1 was created in Pakistan during the Pakistan era. Later, in the sixties, the Bengal Excise Department was renamed as the Excise and Taxation Department and was transferred to the Ministry of Finance.
Following the emergence of Bangladesh through the Great War, the excise and taxation department was reorganized under the National Board of Revenue through the Directorate of Narcotics and Liquor. Either. The ban on opium and deadlife was banned in that year and the cultivation of cannabis was stopped in that day and all cannabis shops were removed in that year.
Until that day, the main objective of the Narcotics and Liquor Directorate was to collect revenue from the drug produced in the country. During the eighties, drug abuse and illicit trafficking around the world increased dramatically. Bangladesh has issued a drug control ordinance at the end of this year to prevent drug abuse and illicit trafficking, to raise public awareness about the adverse reactions to drugs and to treat and rehabilitate drug addicts. Subsequently on January 3, 1990 the Narcotics Control Act was enacted and the Narcotics and Liquor was established in the same year under the then Secretariat of the President under the control of the Narcotics Control Directorate.

After the establishment of the Directorate of Narcotics Control, the department was divided into 24 sub-regions and its operations were carried out. As such, Kushtia, Chuadanga and Meherpur were carrying out the three districts of Kushtia sub-region. The department issued a notification in September, and on September 27, the department changed its organizational structure and established its offices in four districts of the country. From there it started its journey under the name of the Department of Drug Control, District Office, Kushtia.
